What is a Dual Band Router?

Wireless router are required to keep all the devices, at home or at office, connected to the network. So, whether a user uses the device for online gaming, unlimited streaming, downloading or any such purpose that requires complete bandwidth the ISP is offering, a wireless router should be able to cater.

If you want fastest speed across all your connected devices, it is better to go for a dual band router. As you can take it by its name, these routers use dual frequencies to pick up devices and transmit data.

A dual band router works not only on 2.4 GHz but also on the popular 5 GHz frequency which is far more robust than 2.4 GHz. As we mentioned that the single band routers use the older standards (wireless g and n), they tend to perform slower in terms of speed and connectivity.

The 5 GHz frequency uses the latest standard, 802.11ac, which is way faster and reliable. Almost all the latest devices these days come with the latest ac standard.

Since a dual band router uses both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, they are able to cater both the new and old devices, and thus offer equal quality of speed and connectivity.

There are also some disadvantages of single band router as compared to dual band router, for more information check out this article.
